Cradle of excellent shipping talents in P.R.China
Jiangsu Maritime Institute is a full-time higher vocational college approved by the People's Government of Jiangsu Province, a demonstration vocational college in Jiangsu Province, and a construction unit of high-level vocational college in Jiangsu Province. Founded in 1951, the school is the first specialized school for training ocean going seamen jointly organized by the Ministry of Communications of the Central People's Government and the China Seamen's Federation after the founding of P.R.China. In the past 70 years, the school has been renamed, transferred, merged and upgraded several times. The major has been expanded in an all-round way, the school scale has been expanded, the school conditions have been improved, and the connotation construction has been deepened. Nearly 200,000 excellent alumni have been cultivated successively, all over the world, including Chen Hongze, a famous navigator, Ye Weilong, vice president of COSCO Shipping Group, Cao Desheng, director of the State Maritime Administration of China, and Chen Shaoze, director of the Standing Committee of the Nanjing Municipal People's Congress and a large number of other elite leaders. The school is also known as "cradle of excellent shipping talents in P.R.China".
Three campuses with distinctive characteristics
The school is located in the ancient city Nanjing, which is the origin of Zheng He's seven voyages to the West. It has three campuses, Jiangning, Qinhuai and Banqiao, covering a total area of 1360 mu. Jiangning campus is located at the foot of the beautiful Fangshan Mountain and the core area of Jiangning University City. It is adjacent to China Pharmaceutical University, Nanjing Medical University, Nanjing Xiaozhuang University, Communication University of China, Nanjing and other famous universities, sharing multiple educational resources. Qinhuai campus is located in the bustling business district of Nanjing City, with convenient transportation and a large number of merchants. It has been built into one of the few provincial university science and Technology Parks in Jiangsu Vocational Colleges, which integrates the functions of education, scientific research, technology transfer and transformation, and business incubation. Banqiao campus is located on the Bank of the Yangtze River. It has the only dedicated internship ship wharf and berthing internship ship in the national maritime colleges and universities. The public training base of modern shipping technology in the Yangtze River Delta approved by the national development and Reform Commission plans to build a 54000 square meter industry Education Integration Science and technology park.
Professional layout of one body and two wings
Focusing on serving the modern shipping industry chain, the school has established seven professional groups, including navigation technology, marine engineering and new energy application, ship and marine engineering equipment manufacturing, ship port electrical and intelligent control, shipping economy and management, information technology and artificial intelligence, culture and tourism and design, and moderately expanded marine leisure, marine finance, new energy, new materials, artificial intelligence and other related fields, and form a professional layout of "one body, two wings, land and water, cluster development". There are 7 major clusters and 44 specialties in the university, including 7 national key specialties, 3 central finance supporting service industry development ability specialties, 3 demonstration point specialties of the Ministry of Communications, 18 provincial brand characteristic specialties, 18 provincial brand cultivation specialties and 4 provincial key specialty clusters. It has 12 institutes, including School of Navigation Technology, School of Marine Engineering, School of Ship and Ocean Engineering, School of Electrical and Automation Engineering, School of Economics and Management, School of Information Engineering, School of Humanities and Arts, School of International Education, School of Continuing Education, School of Marxism, School of Innovation and Entrepreneurship, School of Sergeant and Military Education, and Physical EducationDepartment. It has nearly 12000 enrolled full-time students.
A team of teachers with thousands of sails
The school has 712 faculty and staff, including 512 full-time faculty members. There are 162 faculty with senior titles or above, accounting for 31.6% of full-time faculty; 48 faculty with doctorate degree, and 92% of full-time faculty are double qualified teachers. The school has 1 national technical expert, 3 famous teachers in transportation vocational education, 8 "333 high-level talents", 27 "Blue Project" talents, 1 Jiangsu craftsman, 1 young expert with outstanding contributions in Jiangsu Province, 3 tourism talents plan, 1 "May 1st" labor model in Jiangsu Province, 1 Nanjing labor model, and the annual person award of University Counselors in Jiangsu Province. The school has one national teaching resource bank, two provincial excellent teaching teams, three second prizes of national teaching achievement awards, two special prizes of provincial teaching achievement awards, seven first prizes, and one special prize of Ministry of Transport teaching achievement award. It has Jiangsu skilled master studio, Nanjing skilled master studio, and navigation skilled master Bangliang studio. There are nearly 107 navigation teachers with the competency certificate of senior crew, including 32 ocean captain and chief engineer, ranking first in navigation vocational colleges in China.
The cultivation of brilliant students
Facing 28 provinces, cities and autonomous regions in China, the university has three enrollment criteria: independent enrollment in advance, counterpart enrollment in secondary and higher vocational colleges, and unified enrollment in college entrance examination culture. There are seven types of enrollment, including Navy Sergeant orientation training, art (Art), 4 + 0 (Undergraduate), 3 + 2 (professional connection), 3 + 3 (secondary and higher vocational connection), joint degree programs, and overseas undergraduate transfer program. The employment rate of graduates has been kept above 98% for many years in a row, and the employment rate of agreements has been kept above 95%. The core indicators such as graduates' employment competitiveness and salary level after half a year have long been in the forefront of vocational colleges in the province. Graduates of navigation, shipbuilding, shipping economy and port equipment are in short supply all the year round. In recent years, the supply-demand ratio of graduates majoring in navigation technology, marine engineering technology and ship electronic and electrical technology has reached 1:8. In the past three years, students have won 375 awards for various skills competitions at or above the provincial level, including 3 first prizes, 11 second prizes, 25 first prizes, 1 special prize, 2 first prizes, 1 special prize and 4 first prizes in the national marine vehicle design and production competition, and "creating youth" in Jiangsu Province. It is the only school in the nation that has always been in the first place.
Research and social service with outstanding achievements
The school has built a number of scientific and technological collaborative innovation and service platforms, including the Joint Maritime Investigation Laboratory of the People's Republic of China, the national science popularization education base, the safety assessment center of Yangtze River shipping enterprises, the provincial university science and technology park, the provincial engineering technology center, and the provincial maker space. It strives to promote collaborative innovation and the transformation of scientific and technological achievements, and comprehensively improves the level of continuing education and social training. It has established a public training base of modern shipping technology in the Yangtze River Delta. It is a crew training base of Jiangsu maritime administration and a training base of Jiangsu port group. There are 114 social training projects. In the past five years, more than 50000 people have completed the training of officers above the third mate third engineer ship, more than 2500 people have completed the training of ocean captain and chief engineer, 250000 people have completed the professional skill appraisal, and the total income of training and skill appraisal has reached 75.28 million yuan. The university has been rated as the advanced unit of scientific research in national higher vocational colleges, national excellent higher education research institution, national staff education and training demonstration point, Jiangsu high skilled talents training demonstration base, Jiangsu talents training model innovation experiment base, Jiangsu software talents training base, and has been awarded the advanced unit of vocational skills appraisal for many years in a row.
Expanding international influence
The school is the first batch of maritime institutions to implement the International Maritime Organization STCW78 / 95 convention, the first batch to introduce the ISO9000 quality system, the first batch of maritime institutions to pass the National Maritime Administration curriculum confirmation, and the first batch of selection units of escort captain in the Gulf of Aden. It has established cooperative relations with 27 overseas schools, such as Heartland Community College of the United States, Plymouth University of the United Kingdom, University of Tasmania of Australia, Singapore SHATEC Institute, Taipei University of Ocean Science and Technology, etc., and has launched 21 international cooperation projects; it has established cooperative relations with relevant government departments of Panama, Bangladesh, Myanmar and other countries, On average, more than 80 overseas non academic students are enrolled every year. The first Maersk (China) training center, established by the school and internationally renowned enterprise Denmark Maersk, actively serves the national development strategy, pioneered the establishment of Academy of Applied Maritime Talents of the Belt and Road, successfully holds the “Belt and Road” International Forum for Seafarers Development, and has recruited 102 overseas students from the the countries along the "Belt and Road". In cooperation with Winning International Group, JMI established the JMI branch in Guinea.
Increasingly broad social identity
The school is one of the first batch of pilot institutions for training non commissioned officers in China. It has been nominated as the most popular navigation institution in China for two consecutive years. It is an advanced vocational education school in Jiangsu Province, a national excellent vocational education school in Huangyanpei, a national high-quality vocational college, a national vocational college with "top 50 international influence", "top 50 service contribution" and "top 50 education effect".
